Compared to the last time we were on the White House lawn seeing the President, this wasn't quite so exciting, but it's hard to turn down an opportunity to see the President even it is just for a quick wave across the lawn!

Marine One
At the beginning of August, Chris had the opportunity to watch President Obama board his helicopter Marine One on the White House lawn.

Daddows do New York (again)!
We decided to spend the first weekend of August in New York city. We were staying on Park Avenue and when we got up on Saturday morning and went out on to the street we realised that it was closed to cars and people were running, walking and cycling in the street. It turns out it was part of the Summer Streets programme where on 3 Saturdays in the Summer, 7 miles of streets are opened up for the public to enjoy.
We had a nice, long walk up to FAO Schwartz and spent the morning looking around there and some other shops. Then we walked back down to Grand Central Station to get on a train to Yankee Stadium.
It was really hot, not quite Kansas City hot but still really hot. The game was also pretty dull. They were playing the Seattle Mariners and the Mariners won 1-0. The highlight for me was the guys sweeping the sand between the innings doing a routine to YMCA, so funny!

On Sunday morning we headed over to central park. When Chris proposed to me in New York, he had originally planned a romantic proposal in a boat in the middle of central park lake but rain had scuppered his plans. Since then I have been teasing him that one day we were going to go out on the lake so he could rein-act his planned proposal! Finally we had the opportunity to do it so as soon as the boat house opened on Sunday morning we were in the line for a boat.
Chris had never rowed a boat before and didn't have a clue what we was doing. For the first 5 minutes we just went round and round in circles before I showed him how it was done! After that he managed to get the hang of it and we had a lovely hour on the lake.
