Skagway

The second port that we stopped at was Skagway.  We couldn't decide what to do in this town so ended up booking an excursion to the Klondike Summit from the cruise ship at the last minute.  It was a short bus tour only an hour and half which drove us up the mountain stopping off a different places for photos on the way.  It was fine just a bit short but the alternatives were mostly excursions to the Yukon in Canada and they meant spending about 5 hours in a coach which I didn't really fancy.

It was really beautiful even though it rained just about the whole time.  Once we were back into the town we walked around the shops. We were disappointed with the town. Someone told us that the cruise ships own a lot of the shops in all of the ports which is why we kept seeing the same diamond and naff t-shirt shops everywhere. This was a real shame and it really felt like the towns were spoilt by this.

We did find one shop that we enjoyed though - the Sarah Palin store! It was hilarious, you could buy just about anything with Sarah Palin's face plastered all over it. We couldn't tell if was serious or not!

In the end we decided we'd had enough of wondering around getting wet so we headed back to the ship.

On the way back of course the sun came out and we saw this little cutie in the sea...
