Hawaii - Day 6, Kauai

On Boxing Day our first stop was for a McDonalds breakfast so that Chris could try one of the local options - spam, egg and rice.  Sounded gross to me!

After breakfast we drove on to Waimea Canyon which was a bit like a mini Grand Canyon.

Next stop was Koke'e State Park. There are loads of trails to choose from but we decided to hike to Waipo'o Falls which was supposedly one of the easier trails. The trail started as a track...

Then we found ourselves hiking down on the edge of the canyon...

It was all downhill to the falls and all I could think was that we were going to have to climb back up on the way back! When we got near to the falls the path had disappeared and we had to climb over huge boulders to get to the little pool and falls.

Then over tree trunks and more boulders to get out again...

Then finally we were back to the top...

When we got back to the car we drove as far north as we could to the Kalalau lookout which is as close as you're able to get to the Napali coast by road.

On our drive back we stopped in Waimea.  There is an old Russian Fort that we stopped at but there wasn't much to see just a few rocks.  We did see Captain Cook though!

Then we had one of the best meals that we had all holiday at Shrimp Station.  Chris had beer battered shrimp and I had sweet chili garlic shrimp, mine was one of the best things that I have ever eaten!

Our last stop on the way back to the hotel was at the Kauai Coffee Company. We had a walk through the coffee plants and then spent ages sampling all the different coffees.
